Last weekend I went to see the movie For Colored Girls by Tyler Perry. It was an intense film about the tragedies of life that people face. The problems - domestic violence, rape, barrenness, teen pregnancy, abortion, death of children, unfaithfulness, HIV and more- are real and in your face. These women tried to deal with their troubles alone; as a result, struggled with depression and self-destructive behaviors. In the end they discovered there was great strength to be found when they leaned on each other. They were not alone in life. Even in their weakness they had something to give to others while also receiving even more strength back.
As I watched I was reminded of the beautiful women in the inner city. Their loves are intense and full of raw emotion and troubles. They need to be reminded they are not alone in life; there is Hope.
*Please note that For Colored Girls is for mature audiences and very intense.
